My sister Marlene is just about the coolest person I know, and last winter she had a cute little cabin just outside of Kaslo. So on reading week I flew to Kelowna via Thunder Bay and Calgary (I love WestJet) and got to hang out with her. The picture at right is Calgary from the air.

I'd never flown over the Rockies before, so I got a little carried away with my digicam. But you've got to admit the view from the top was cool. The picture at right is coming into Kelowna - I love landuse stuff, and it looked so textbookish.

Okanagan Lake at left. My cute sister (holding my GPS) and her cute cabin on the right. She doesn't live in the cabin anymore, though I'm sure she still visits.

The cabin doesn't have a bathroom, though it does have running water. The outhouse is perched on the hillside, and the view on the left is the cabin from the outhouse. It was a snowy shortcut to get to Kaslo.

We got to have some cool adventures, including a daytrip to Sandon, which is at the base of Idaho Peak and used to be a Galena mining town. We also hiked up to St. Leon's hotsprings with our toboggans in tow. After a long happy soak, we tobogganed back down.

On another adventure, we went snowshoeing west of Kaslo. Marlene and Will decided on a shortcut down the mountain. I wasn't quite up the challenge, and went most of the way on my butt.

Those are bear marks on the tree at left. Fortunately, they sleep in the winter. Marlene says Kaslo is the cutest town in the world, so I took lots of pictures of it and Kootenay Lake. The rock skipping picture is on the northeast end of the lake just outside Argenta.
