Summer on fast forward

This summer has been good in many ways, but I was missing the paddling thing. One five night trip later, I still miss it. It's like that, the more time I spend out there, the more I want to be there. Sigh.

You know what's not like that, at all? Moving house. If I had sat down and thought about just how much work I had ahead of me when it still was ahead of me in June, I might have given the long commute a serious thought. It's a good thing I didn't do that, though, because I really like the new house (even if it will be months before there is no house-related to do list stuck to my fridge.)

Stupid to do lists keeping me from my neglected blog... you see, I am the kind of person who can make a minor errand take forever. Last night, I wanted to return a library book. I just joined the public library (as soon as I had ID with my new address), and I'd finished my first book. I'm liking the idea of reading random books that I may or may not like - when buying books, I feel the need to read endless blurbs to make *sure* I'm going to *like* the book before I spend my money. But if it's free, I can find it lame and still have my money's worth, no? In any case, I finished my book, and I have made a 5K rule - if the trip is under 5 km (return) and does not involve carrying bulky items, I will walk (or bike) it. So returning one book meant: 25 minute walk to library, 30 minutes poking around, 35 minutes walking home (what? it was a nice night, and I'm still getting to know the city.) So now we have gone from "I have all this evening, it's only 7:15!" to "crap, I didn't cross any items off my list today!"
